<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter substrate and a liquid crystal display device that are reduced in light leakage at black display and high in contrast, thereby achieving high quality display. <P>SOLUTION: The color filter substrate is formed of a black matrix on a transparent substrate and a coloring pixel consisting of a coloring film at a polygonal opening of the black matrix. A liquid crystal compound is filled in a space held by a fixing spacer between the color filter substrate and a counter substrate. A polarizing plate is disposed such that each polarizing axis is perpendicular to sides opposite to the sides in contact with the liquid crystal compound of both substrates. Thus, the color filter substrate is used for a normally black active matrix liquid crystal display. A minimum value CRmin of contrast is ≥2,000 when measured by rotating the color filter substrate up to 0-360° with respect to a polarizing axis of a linear polarizer whose extinction ratio at 410 nm is ≥5.0×10<SP>3</SP>and ≤5.0×10<SP>4</SP>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
