PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas discharge panel manufacturing device for greatly reducing the problem that a local recess is produced in a PDP in a sealing or exhausting process resulting in the crack of the PDP. SOLUTION: The gas discharge panel manufacturing device comprises a gripping means 41 for gripping a pair of substrates 2, 3 in the state of being opposed to each other across a sealing member 17 provided at the peripheral edge thereof, during sealing or exhaust, the gripping means 41 having an escaping cavity 60 for avoiding the interference with the substrate 2 when the gripping means 41 is inclined with its dead weight.
