<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a food washing apparatus capable of surely removing low specific-gravity foreign matters retaining while floating on a water surface at the rear end part of a cleaning water tank and simultaneously removing foreign matters floating underwater. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The food washing apparatus has a constitution in which a catchment channel part 6 is formed in the middle of the inclined rear wall 2b of a cleaning water tank 2 formed along the inclination of a removal conveyor 3; a flowing water outlet 42 is formed on the catchment channel part 6; a water absorption hood 7 is arranged in a submerged state in water so as to cover the upper part of the catchment channel part 6; an upper end water intake 70 opening at a position in the vicinity of the water surface W is formed at the upper end of the water absorption hood 7 and a lower end water intake 71 opening at a position in the middle of water is formed at the lower end of the water absorption hood 7.
