<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic system of a forklift capable of improving driving efficiency and regenerative efficiency of a motor, and a controlling method therefor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The hydraulic system of the forklift comprises: a first pump 22 feeding hydraulic oil to at least a lift cylinder 13 to raise a fork; a first motor 21 receiving power supply from a battery and driving the first pump 22; a second pump 32 functioning as a hydraulic motor by the hydraulic oil returned when the fork is lowered, in addition to a function feeding the hydraulic oil to the lift cylinder 13 to raise the fork; a second motor 31 driven by the second pump 32 functioning as the hydraulic motor to function as a generator in addition to a function receiving the power supply from the battery to drive the second pump 32; and a controller 4 controlling numbers of rotations of the first motor 21 and the second motor 31 on the basis of regulations decided in advance.
