The shaft (18) has a cylindrical hollow shaft including an internal surface and an external journal surface (48), where the internal surface defines an internal cavity coaxial with the hollow shaft. A spline (40) is provided on the internal surface, such that power is transferred from a driven member to the hollow shaft. The spline is configured to be dry-mated to the driven member, such that the internal cavity is not in fluid communication with transmission fluid within a hybrid transmission, where a plug seal fluidly seals the internal cavity. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a hybrid powertrain.
