<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a mechanism by intensively arranging individual parts in a peripheral position of a cam shaft, improve operating accuracy of an intake valve by assembling a swinging arm to a cam of a cam shaft and a swinging cam with an appropriate clearance and simplify a lubricating structure, in a variable valve mechanism capable of changing valve lift by moving the position of an arm supporting shaft in a given direction with the swinging arm abutting against the cam of the cam shaft and the swinging cam and changing a swing starting position of the swinging cam. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The swinging cam is arranged swingably around an axis line of the cam shaft and at the same time the arm supporting shaft is fitted to a supporting block rotating around the axis line of the cam shaft.
