The method involves superimposing an X-ray image acquisition of an object (10) i.e. patient, with an optical image acquisition of the object. The superimposing of the X-ray and optical image acquisitions is displayed on an output unit (5) e.g. LCD screen. Different colors and/or gray levels of the optical image acquisition are displayed with an opacity that depends on colors and/or gray levels, where the opacity includes hiding power of color shade and/or gray shade. A maximal hiding power is selected such that the X-ray image acquisition is viewable by the optical image acquisition. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product having instructions for performing a method for operating an X-ray device (2) an X-ray device comprising a color control module.
