The invention relates to a system for the smart management of an electrochemical battery, using a method for estimating the internal condition of the battery, and based on mathematical models for managing an electrochemical battery during the operation thereof and particularly for estimating the characteristics of the battery that cannot be directly measured. For applications relating to hybrid and electric vehicles, the most interesting internal characteristics are the state of charge (SoC), the state of health (SoH) and the thermal state. The reconstruction of the internal characteristics is made by using mathematical models of the battery.
