<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission apparatus and a method for controlling the same capable of improving a modulation accuracy of an optical signal. <P>SOLUTION: An LN modulator 120 has a phase adjustment part that changes a phase different of an optical signal between arms according to a control signal. A branch 125 and light receiving parts 141A and 141B acquire a positive phase signal and a negative-phase signal generated by a modulating part. A subtracting circuit 150 carries out a subtraction of the positive phase signal and negative-phase signal acquired by the branch 125 and the light receiving parts 141A and 141B. A power meter 161 detects a power of a differential signal obtained by subtracting at the subtracting circuit 150.
