<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for managing distributed files, which provides the file stored in one of plurality of servers to a user by accessing any server from a terminal used by the user. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The system manages the distributed files stored in the plurality of servers, and comprises: a terminal used by the user, which is connected to a communication line; a plurality of servers receiving user's request; and a device for managing the distributed files, which determines a server having an electronic file associated with the user's request in response to an inquiry from the server, and enables each server to execute a required process for the request. Each server includes: a means for storing the file; a means for receiving a request to send the file; a means for controlling a file memory; a means for sending the file; a means for receiving the user's request; and a means for responding to the user's request.
