<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control system which allows a control mode of a device to be controlled selected based on the posture of a remote controller body to be notified by the device to be controlled. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The remote controller 2 causes a transmission section 21 to transmit a remote control signal corresponding to the posture detected by a posture detecting section 23 to a video recording section 1. The video recording device 1 selects either an HDD mode or a DVD mode as an operation mode for operating an HDD 12 or a DVD drive 13 based on the remote control signal received by a receiving section 11. When selecting the HDD mode, the video recording device 1 lights a first light-emitting section 12a corresponding the HDD mode to send a notice that the HDD mode has been selected. Also, when selecting the DVD mode, the video recording device 1 lights a second light-emitting section 13a corresponding to the DVD mode to send a notice that the DVD mode has been selected.
