PURPOSE: A location recognizing method of a cleaning robot is provided to calculate a cleaning time based on a mapping time and control the cleaning time and area. CONSTITUTION: When a cleaning robot enters at least one cleaning area, receives an infra-red signal and recognizes a cleaning area. An obstacle sensor senses an obstacle on the cleaning area and the cleaning robot maps the cleaning area and calculates a mapping time. The cleaning robot calculates the cleaning area based on the mapping time and sets a cleaning time.
