<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biometric authentication system and an authentication method that take the characteristics of a face authentication system and a voice print authentication system into consideration in the determination of biological identification to compensate the disadvantages of the face recognition system with the advantages of the voice print authentication system, while compensating the disadvantages of the voice print authentication system with the advantages of the face authentication system, thereby providing an overall high authentication speed and a low rate of mix-up. <P>SOLUTION: A biometric authentication system determines whether a living body to be authenticated is the same as one of living bodies belonging to a registered living body group whose members are previously registered living bodies, based on the living body's face information and voice print information. The system creates a registered face information database and a registered finger print database, by previously obtaining the face information and the voice print information of each living body belonging to the registered living body group. The face information of the living body to be authenticated is compared with the information of each face, belonging to the registered face information database for narrowing down persons to several persons having high facial similarities, and thereafter their voice prints are compared to authenticate whether they are identical to the living body to be authenticated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
