<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction in a valve lift quantity by rotation of a housing, when force in the pushing-in direction acts on an adjusting screw 17. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This lash adjuster 1 has a cylindrical housing 14 fitted in a storage hole 6 opened on an upper surface of a cylinder head 2, the adjusting screw 17 having on the outer periphery a male screw 16 engaging by a screw with a female screw 15 formed on the inner periphery of its housing 14, and a return spring 19 for energizing its adjusting screw 17 in the direction for projecting upward from the housing 14, and rockably supports an arm 7 of a valve gear by the projecting end 23 from the housing 14 of the adjusting screw 17. A circumferential groove 25 is formed on the outer periphery of the housing 14, and a ring member 26 is fitted in its circumferential groove 25, and rotation of the housing 14 to the storage hole 6 is prevented by frictional force between the outer periphery of its ring member 26 and the inner periphery of the storage hole 6.
