PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition applied on the surface of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, capable of forming a coated film obtaining a sufficiently high hydrophilicity for a long period of time. SOLUTION: This coating composition comprises a hydrophilic resin and water soluble cellulose, and is applied on the surface of the aluminum or aluminum alloy. The hydrophilic resin is an acrylic polymer containing a compound (1) expressed by general formula [wherein, R1 is H or CH<SB>3</SB>] and a hydroxide of an alkali metal, and having a pH 3.0 to 5.0 range.
