APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CLASSIFYING VEHICLE TYPE

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for classifying a vehicle type are provided to generate vehicle type information accurately by combining two loop sensors and one piezoelectric sensor and calculating a traffic parameter. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus and a method for classifying a vehicle type, a sensor unit(210) includes a first loop sensor, a piezoelectric sensor, and a second loop sensor which are successively arranged by a constant interval. An image pick-up unit(220) is separated from the sensor by a certain distance. A vehicle type information generated system(100) produces a traffic parameter by using a distance of a first loop sensor, a distance of first loop sensor and a piezoelectric sensor and a time when a vehicle passes through a sensor. A vehicle type information generated system recognizes an image photographed by the image pick-up unit, and the vehicle type information generating system produces the vehicle type information by uses the calculated traffic parameter and the vehicle information.
