A stripping device (26) for stripping a waste piece (12) from a sheet (14) in a press (10) has a resilient connecting portion (30) connecting supporting finger (34) connected to a frame (18) of the press (10) and a cogwheel (28) disposed proximal an aperture (24) of the frame (18). The cogwheel (28) is aligned in register with a die (22) in a first configuration (52) of the device (26) and slides along the cogwheel (28) in contact with the waste piece (12) to deflect, and thereby strip, the waste piece (12). The die (22) also biases the cogwheel (28) towards the finger (34) as it is rotated the device (26) is in a second configuration (54) in which the cogwheel (28) is aligned for biasing back into the first configuration (52) when the die (22) is removed from contact with the cogwheel (28).
