<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an abnormal video from being displayed even at startup immediately after a main power is turned on, in a video display device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The video display device is provided with a transistor 9 for grounding a video signal transmission line 10 between a video and sound processing section 32 and a liquid crystal opening/closing control section 4, by performing switching operation by a signal which is output from a sub-control section 8. A high signal is output from the sub-control section 8 during one second after the main power is turned on, and the video signal transmission line 10 is grounded by operation of the transistor 9. The video signal which is input to the liquid crystal opening/closing control section 4 becomes low, and the video is not displayed from a liquid crystal panel 5.
