<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a mold-clamping apparatus to be adjustable to generate prescribed mold-clamping force readily and in a short time when a mold unit is exchanged, even if the mold unit is exchanged to one different in thickness such that the mold-clamping apparatus is automatically moved to a position generating the prescribed mold-clamping force by driving a mold thickness motor and a mold-clamping motor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for adjusting the mold thickness comprises calculating the position of a movable platen based on a detecting signal of a mold opening/closing positional sensor at the time of attaching a mold unit; asking a required distance for mold clamping corresponding to the difference between the calculated position of the movable platen and the position of the movable platen corresponding to the crosshead position at the finish of mold clamping; and moving a toggle-type mold-clamping apparatus supporter by a required distance for mold clamping.
