PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element which is further reduced in size, while securing proper display performance. SOLUTION: Organic light-emitting devices 10R, 10G and 10B are provided with a first electrode layer 13, a lower part organic layer 14, an upper part organic layer 15 and a second electrode 16 on a concave part 121 of a flat insulation layer 12 fitted on a base body 11, in this order. Since the first electrode layer 13, the lower part organic layer 14 and the upper part organic layer 15 are all housed in the concave part 121, as compared with a conventional structure, in which an electrode layer is fitted on an insulating layer with a flat upper face without irregularities, it is further thinned. Additionally, since a bottom face 121L of the concave part 121 is a flat surface, proper display performance can be assured. Moreover, since a convex part 123 which surrounds the concave part 121 at the flat insulating layer 12 functions as an aperture regulation insulating layer that regulates the light-emitting regions, simplification on the structure can be realized.
