PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent-magnet rotary electric machine having a rotor that prevents the degradation in performance due to the effect of leakage flux. SOLUTION: The permanent-magnet rotary electric machine includes a stator and a rotor. The stator includes: a stator core formed by laminating magnetic steel sheets in the axial direction; a stator core retaining plate that tightens and fixes the stator core; and an armature winding housed in a slot in the stator core. The rotor includes: a shaft; a holding ring that covers the periphery of the shaft and is joined with the shaft; and a permanent magnet bonded to the inner circumferential surface of the holding ring. The permanent magnet of the rotor includes a member extended, together with the holding ring, outward beyond the end of the stator in the axial direction. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the degradation in performance due to leakage flux by adjusting the length of the permanent magnet extended outward beyond the end of the stator in the axial direction.
