The device has a voltage evaluation unit (SA) for comparing voltage potentials (U-HV-pos, U-HV-neg, U-L1, U-L2, U-L3) lying at respective inputs. One of the inputs is connected with an output of a voltage source (V1) by voltage dividers (R7-R10), and another input is connected with circuit breaker outputs of a circuit breaker (Q2-Q7) by voltage dividers (R11- R16), where the circuit breaker is a part of a converter for an electrical drive of a vehicle. The evaluation unit detects error e.g. short circuit, of the circuit breaker. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for diagnosing a defective circuit-breaker of a converter for a motor vehicle (2) a data carrier with a program for diagnosing a defective circuit-breaker of a converter for a motor vehicle.
