The dishwasher (1) has a water softening device (2) provided with an ion exchanger (4), a salt container (6) providing brine and a salt lacking indicator. The indicator exhibits a material (8) e.g. color changing gel, in connection with a sole, where color of the material changes based on the salt concentration of the brine. The material is arranged in a retaining container projecting into the brine, where a molecule chain arrangement of the material is changed based on the salt concentration. The retaining container is arranged in a cover (9) of the salt container.
