PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize recording and reproduction using a near-field light to a plurality of recording layers without performing complicated optical adjustment of a near-field optical system.

SOLUTION: When a near-field light is radiated to an optical recording medium 200 having a plurality of recording layers to perform recording and reproduction, an envelope of a tracking error signal when a focal distance is changed is detected at a control section 28 and a focus control signal Sf is generated using a position where a signal amplitude becomes a maximum as a reference. By driving an aberration correction mechanism 11 and optical lenses 12 and 13 of an optical adjustment mechanism 10 based on the focus control signal Sf, favorable near-field recording and reproduction can be realized by performing focus control to the plurality of recording layers without performing complicated optical adjustment.
