PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side surface load responding structure for a vehicle with a small movable space in a longitudinal direction and sufficient mountability to a space in a cabin. SOLUTION: The side surface load responding structure for the vehicle is provided with a rigid bar 5 extending in a vehicle width direction between right and left center pillars 1; and a lifting device 18 for lifting the rigid bar 5 along the center pillar 1 in a vertical direction. The lifting device is an X type link 18 crossed in the X form, and the rigid bar 5 supported on its upper end part is vertically moved by driving mechanisms (13, 14, 15, 16, 17).
