The present invention relates to a system and method for receiving and distributing targeted content, in particular for a communication device such as a mobile phone. The communication device has a camera for photographing an image and a module for detecting whether or not the photographed image contains a barcode. If the photographed image contains a barcode, then the communication device decodes the barcode. Otherwise, the communication device determines whether or not the image is framed and sends the photograph, or image data based upon the photographed image, to an image matching server. The image matching server matches the transmitted image, or image data with image data on the server and transmits associated data content back to the communication device. The system is thus able to cope with advertising and content distribution campaigns which utilize barcodes as well as pre-determined images. |
