<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of carrying out a high quality image formation with a simple composition, easy assembly, and capable of adjusting parallelism between recording material transporting units by simplifying adjustment of movement in a unit holder with high accuracy; and to provide a fixing unit supporting method and a fixing unit movement adjusting method for the image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The center of gravity G for the fixing unit 35 is in a position which is held between two projections 61 on the top and the bottom of a first side plate 42 of a main structure. A guide groove 51 and the guide projection 61 which engage with each other are provided on a vertical line L which goes through the center of gravity G of the fixing unit 35. Furthermore, the position of eccentric shaft section 53, which is the engaging position of an eccentric cam 52 with the unit holder member 45, is provided on the vertical line L.
