PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve focusing accuracy for a subject. SOLUTION: A digital camera 1 includes: an optical system 11 which forms a subject image; a diaphragm 40 which adjusts the quantity of light passing through the optical system 11; a CCD image sensor 12 which images the subject image formed by the optical system 11, to produce image data; a controller 17 which controls the optical system 11, so as to adjust a focusing state with respect to the image data in a focusing region 60 being a part of the image data produced by the CCD image sensor 12; and a controller 17 which makes the size of the focusing region 60 variable according to the adjustment state of the diaphragm 40.
