<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a cheap and highly-accurate correction while suitably correcting the sudden unevenness of application of the ink of a ribbon 2. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A thermal transfer printer includes a thermal head 6 which is driven from printing image data and makes a print on photographic paper 4, the first ink ribbon superposing means for superposing the ribbon 2 zigzag on the conveying course, a light source 1 for irradiating the ribbon 2 with light so as to permeate it superposed by the first ink ribbon superposing means, a light receiving element 3 for detecting a transmitted light which has permeated the ribbon 2 from the light source 1 as color information, and a printing control block 24 for correcting the driving of the thermal head 6 from the color information.
