PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an update method for the firmware of an electronic endoscope for the easy take-over of information retained by the electronic endoscope after the update of its firmware. SOLUTION: The firmware of an electronic endoscope is stored in FROM that contains a storage structure table indicating the storage condition of different parameters set up by several physicians. When the update of an electronic endoscope firmware begins, the pre-update firmware writes on a setting file in a text file form the parameters set up by the physicians and stored in the memory, by referring to the pre-update storage structure table contained therein. After the update, the firmware restores these parameters set up under the pre-update firmware in memory in accordance with the storage conditions of the post-update firmware, by referring to the setting file written by the pre-update firmware and the storage structure table contained in the post-update firmware.
