PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that suppresses the occurrence of trouble when driving a laser diode with a pulse-like driving current. SOLUTION: This application utilizes a first field-effect transistor connected in parallel to a laser diode having an input electrode and an output electrode, and turning on/off electrical connection between the input electrode and the output electrode. In this case, the level of a drive signal of the first field-effect transistor is set at a first level for turning off the connection by the first field-effect transistor in a time range where the drive current of the laser diode is at a high level. The level of the drive signal is set at a second level for turning on the connection by the first field-effect transistor in at least a partial range in a time range where the drive current is at a low level.
