DIGITAL CONVERTER AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital converter that is operated under the most appropriate conditions in accordance with the characteristics of each switching element. SOLUTION: The digital converter includes: a step-up chopper 4 constructed by parallel-connecting three sets of circuits obtained by connecting coils L1 to L3 and switching elements Q1 to Q3 in series; a rectifying circuit 2 that supplies each coil L1 to L3 with input current; and a computer circuit 3 that PWM-controls each switching element Q1 to Q3 in a predetermined control cycle. It is determined whether the operation mode is continuous mode in which input current to the coils is not interrupted during a control cycle or discontinuous mode in which the input current is interrupted at some midpoint in the control cycle. The above PWM control is carried out using a different algorithm based on the result of the determination.
