<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine in which a ring for cutting is simply and easily connected to a cutter head. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This shield machine includes a shield body 1, the cutter head 2, and the ring 3 for cutting so formed in the shield body as to be retractable in the longitudinal direction. An annular space section S is formed in the shield body near the outer peripheral portion of the annular partition wall section 12. An annular movable member 51 is rotatably disposed on the inner peripheral side of the annular space section. The ring for cutting is so fitted onto the outer periphery of the annular movable member with a key member 61 interposed therebetween as to be movable only in the longitudinal direction. A hole section 43a is formed in each of radial extensible cutter spokes 35 which form the cutter head. An engagement rod 53 is so disposed on the annular movable member as to be retractable in the longitudinal direction. The shield machine further includes a cylinder device 54 for projecting/retracting the rod for projecting and retracting the engagement rod between an engagement position where the rod is engaged with the hole section and a disengagement position where the rod is disengaged from the hole section.
