<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a bisbenzodithiol compound useful as an organic electronic material, an ultraviolet absorber, and an intermediate for synthesis thereof simply and in good yields by using safe and inexpensive raw materials. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a compound represented by general formula (1) [wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group, provided that R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are the same or different from each other or may be combined together to form a ring; X is an ion which neutralizes an electric charge; m is an integer of 1 or 2; n is an integer of 1 or 2; M is a hydrogen atom, a metallic atom, or a conjugate acid of a base; p is an integer of 1-4; and q is an integer of 1-4], which comprises reacting 1,4-benzoquinone or 1,2-benzoquinone with a dithiocarbamate compound represented by general formula (2).
