<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing the occurrence of faulty transfer caused by waviness of a transfer belt without causing shortening of the life of the transfer belt. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, an endless intermediate transfer belt 7 constituted by attaching meandering preventing ribs 28 to both ends in a width direction of the inner peripheral surface is wound round at least two rollers, and the meandering preventing ribs 28 attached to the intermediate transfer belt 7 are fit in fitting grooves formed on the outer periphery at both ends in a shaft direction of the roller, so as to regulate meandering of the intermediate transfer belt 7. In the apparatus, width of at least one of the meandering preventing ribs 28 is narrowed according to the waviness amount of the intermediate transfer belt 7, a pulley 35 is arranged just before a transfer part in a recording material conveying direction, and also the meandering preventing rib 28 is fit in the fitting groove formed on the outer periphery of the pulley 35.
