A fat-soluble fraction extracted from the fruiting body of Hericium erinaceum is demonstrated to inhibit the neuronal toxicity of amyloid beta-peptide (Abeta) and induce the synthesis of nerve growth factor (NGF), and has great potential as an active ingredient for pharmaceutical products, health food products, food products and/or beverages to prevent and/or treat dementia, especially Alzheimer-type dementia.
