A single mode optical fiber includes: a core portion; and a clad portion formed around the core portion, having 4 to 8 pores arranged around the core portion, and having a refractivity lower than the core portion. The optical fiber causes light having a zero dispersion wavelength shorter than 1150 nm and longer than 1000 nm only in LP01 mode as the base mode. The effective core cross section at wavelength 1064 nm is 12 µm2 or below. Thus, it is possible to manufacture the single mode optical fiber appropriate for a nonlinear optical device used in the wavelength band in the vicinity of 1000 nm at a low cost. An optical device using the fiber can also be provided.
