<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate preparing operations for grouping document data by a document reader that automatically groups document data corresponding to a plurality of read documents and records them as electronic files. <P>SOLUTION: The image reader reads documents (11 to 15) in order to generate document data. Then an electronic file is generated by grouping document data of a document 11 where a group identifier G1 is drawn to document data of a document 12 which is right before a document 13 where a group identifier G2 is drawn (refer to F1).
