PURPOSE: A side airbag for a vehicle is provided to give impact absorbing force appropriate for physique of a passenger by determining expansion of a sub-chamber depending on the extent of impact energy transmitted from a cushion to a passenger. CONSTITUTION: A side airbag for a vehicle comprises an inflator(20) and a cushion. The inflator spouts gas depending on an external signal. The cushion is deployed in multiple stages due to the gas drawn in from an inflator. The cushion consists of a main chamber(30) and a sub-chamber(50). The main chamber is divided into two or more diaphragms(33). The diaphragm has an inner vent hole(33a). The sub-chamber is added to the main chamber. Film(40) of a specific size is installed in a diaphragm. The film is ruptured under pressure exceeding a critical value to deploy additionally the sub-chamber. |
