337,550. Blache, H. March 28, 1929, [Convention date]. Connections to carbons.-A device for supplying metal caps to a machine for assembling them on the ends of carbon electrodes comprises a selecting device which separates the caps into two groups the members of which face in opposite directions and are passed to two shoots one of which is twisted through 180‹. The shoots lead into a common passage from which the caps, now all facing in the same direction are fed singly to the assembling machine. In the construction of apparatus described, the caps 16, Figs. 4 and 5, are placed in a hopper 1, Fig. 1, and agitated by a rotary brush 4 or other form of agitator so as to pass into a passage 2. The selecting device is contained in the casing 3 and comprises two spaced discs 11, 12 mounted on an intermittently rotated shaft 9 driven by a pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 10, 7, 8. The disc 11 has peripheral recesses each accommodating one cap from the passage 2, and the disc 12 carries opposite each recess a spring-pressed plunger 14 biassed away from the disc 11. In the rotation of the selecting device a cam 17 actuates the plunger against its spring and discharges those caps with the closed end towards the plunger into a straight shoot 18, Fig. 4. Those caps oppositely directed are not discharged and pass to another shoot 20 twisted through 180‹ into which they are discharged by a fixed guide 19, Fig. 5. The two sheets merge into a common channel 21, provided with an agitator in the form of a hexagonal disc; from which they are fed by a reciprocating slide 26 to the assembling device 27. |
