PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process for optical fibers, suitable for production of large volumes of optical fibers with reduced Rayleigh scattering intensity and small transfer loss. SOLUTION: A buffering chamber 41 is arranged between the optical fiber- drawing oven 11 and the slow cooling oven 21 and the length of the buffering chamber in the optical fiber-drawing direction is represented by L1. The buffering chamber is constituted with the first buffering chamber 42 and the second buffering chamber 45. The inner space of the buffering chamber 41 including the first buffering chamber 42 and the second buffering chamber 45 is filled with a mixture of the first gas of the atmospheric gas in the optical fiber-drawing oven (the core tube 13) with the air as the atmospheric gas in the slow cooling oven (the core tube 23). |
