<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where image quality is detected based on an image pattern formed on an image carrier, and image characteristic such as graininess and sharpness is controlled based on the result of the detection. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 is equipped with a pattern image forming means for forming a pattern image on an image carrier (photoreceptor 3, intermediate transfer body 15, recording paper carriers 17 and 22), a detection sensor 31 for detecting the pattern image, and a control means for controlling the image characteristic based on the result of the detection by the detection sensor. The apparatus 100 is also equipped with a dedicated transfer roller 6 to which the pattern image formed on the image carrier is temporarily transferred at a position where it faces to the image carrier, and the pattern image transferred to the roller 6 is detected by the detection sensor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
