The device (10) has an elongated side piece for flatly holding a printing plate (11). Multiple spring elements (15) are utilized for connecting two clamping side pieces (13, 14) such that the clamping side pieces are pivoted toward each other against force of the spring elements. A clamping area is defined by the clamping side pieces. Elastic contact elements (17, 18) are associated with the clamping side pieces within the clamping area. Multiple handles (19) are attached to the clamping side piece (14). Openings (20) are located in the clamping side pieces.
