<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which prevents irregular reflection of light in a liquid crystal panel and can improve the picture quality, and to provide a liquid crystal projector apparatus which uses the above liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a transparent substrate 31 on which a pixel TFT 34c is disposed around a pixel opening area (a) in one principal face side, a light-transmitting counter substrate 5 disposed in one principal face side of the transparent substrate 31 and opposing to the substrate, a liquid crystal layer 7 held between these substrates, a first light shielding film 302 which covers the pixel TFT 34c in the transparent substrate 31 side around the pixel opening area (a), and a second light shielding film 308 which covers the pixel TFT 34c in the counter substrate 5 side around the pixel opening area (a).
