<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detent device capable of securely preventing wrong assembly, and to provide a detent device allowing easy incorporation of a detent spring. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The detent device is equipped with a case 2 for storing a rotatable detent plate 12 and the detent spring 21 having a fastening part 21b bolted to the case 2 so as to energize its tip 21a to a detent plate 12 side for elastically holding the detent plate 12 at a specific position. The case 2 comprises a whirl-stop surface part 31a for regulating rotation of the detent spring 21 to a bolting rotation direction and positioning the detent spring 21 at a specific position in the fastening rotation direction, and a guide surface part 31b extending from the whirl stop surface part 31a to a loose side of a bolt 19 in the axial direction and to an inclining direction toward the rotation direction for guiding the detent spring 21 to engage with the whirl stop surface part 31a.
