343,204. Pivots for vehicle doors. OVERTON, W., Marsh Street, Walsall. Nov. 29, 1929, No. 36607. [Class 103 (ii).] A vehicle door is supported on two pivot bearings arranged in line with one another near the edge of the door remote from the latch. The upper pivot pin c, Fig. 6, is secured in a bracket d fixed to the inside of the cantrail and works in a socket fixed to the inside of the door at the top. The lower pivot pin n, Fig. 4, is secured in a bracket d fixed to the inside of the bottom of the door and is screwed into the inner element of a roller bearing q carried in a cup j fixed to the floor or to a step below the floor level. The door is raised to correct for sag by adjusting the roller bearing on the threaded pivot pin n by means of the cap p, which is keyed to the bearing ; a locking nut o is provided. The pivot pins c, n may be parts of a single rod extending throughout the length of the door, in which case the upper pin c is made free in its socket d. The edge of the door near the pivots is rounded, and the body pillar is shaped so that there is no gap as the door opens. A weather and draught-excluding strip may be provided. |
