[Class 135.] Rotary disc valves; closure members.-A valve of the sliding type is formed with a backing plate 21 spaced on columns 24 from the seating 14 and its continuation supporting surface sc as to provide an unobstructed lateral opening for fluids which may contain solid matter. As the moving parts are unconfined at the sides any incrustration on the sliding surfaces is pushed out and the valve surfaces are self-clearing. The valve member is formed in two parts pressed apart by an enclosed spring 27, as shown, and may be operated with a rotary movement by a rotary shaft 19. The valve may be used on the end of a pipe 11 as a terminal discharge valve, or it may be disposed in the wall of a tank as, for example, a tank valve in a locomotive tender. |
