PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical formulation containing atorvastatin and candesartan as active ingredient is provided to reduce cholesterol synthesis. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical formulation containing an immediate release compartment containing an atorvastatin as a pharmacologically active ingredient, its isomer, or its pharmaceutically active ingredient, a sustained release compartment containing candesartan as a pharmacologically active ingredient, its pharmaceutically acceptable salt or its prodrug. The release of candesartan starts 1 to 8 hours after atorvastatin release. The sustained release compartment contains a release control material selected from enteric polymer, water insoluble polymer, hydrophobic compound, hydrophilic polymer or their mixture. The pharmaceutical formulation is administered at night. The pharmaceutical formulation is used for preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases.
