PURPOSE: A fan clutch for controlling the insertion depth of a cooling fan using ER(Electro-Rheological) fluid is provided to keep a proper cooling efficiency by rectilinearly moving the fan clutch and the fan according to the temperature of cooling water. CONSTITUTION: A fan clutch for controlling the insertion depth of a cooling fan using ER fluid comprises a pulley shaft(10) which is applied with a driving force from an engine, a piston(20) arranged to move back and forth in an ER fluid receiving part(8) of the pulley shaft, a rotor connected to the piston, an electric field generator(40) creating an electric field in the ER fluid to pull the piston toward the engine, and an elastic member(50) elastically supporting the piston against the engine.
