<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus, a control method thereof and a program that can appropriately correct an image by simply and easily suppressing a tone jump resulting from tone conversion. <P>SOLUTION: A cumulative frequency of each luminance value is calculated from a histogram of luminance values of input image data. A basic tone characteristic indicating a distribution of output luminance values to input luminance values is set as a base for tone conversion of the image data. A tone characteristic is extracted from the generated histogram, and a first weight for correcting the basic tone characteristic is calculated from the tone characteristic. For each luminance value, the difference of the basic tone characteristic from the cumulative frequency is multiplied by the first weight before added to the basic tone characteristic to produce a corrected value of output luminance to each input luminance value of the basic tone characteristic. The image data is carried out tone conversion with a tone conversion curve having the computed corrected value of output luminance to each input luminance value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
